Hello,

I find myself in charge of a small grocery store with a TEC system. Everyone there seems to be using the system by routine without really knowing much about it, so I need to learn as much as possible. I've tried Google without success. The registers are TEC M-2800-48P-7RD-Z. They are connected to a computer by interface devices marked TEC FC-62 and TEC FC-71. The computer is running a DOS program, the main screen has a heading of TEC M-2300-45 Manager Console Version 2.3F. The program is simply called mcs.exe. I realize the system is old, but we can't afford to replace the registers. However I could replace the computer as I have a spare sitting around. If anyone could point me to a manual for the registers, the software, or info for the interface devices I would really appreciate it. I am especially interested in gaining the ability to extract and analyze price data.

Thanks,

Bob

Hi Bob,
It is not surprising that you can't find anything on the net. This POS terminal series was produced by TEC Japan from 1982 to about 1984 so there is little information left in the world for them now. We have the M-2300 manuals in our TEC section so the 2800 may be similar enough to use the 2300 manual. If you can take some photos of the components of the system (especially the keyboard of the POS terminals showing key labels), I will try to determine whether we can find some more information for you. Make sure you back up the Management software and data. You may never find the software again.

Thank for the reply. Since I can only attach 3 pictures at a time I'll post another response.

Okay. great. This system is very similar to the 2300. I'm going through some of the data I have to see which will be best for you. As for the management console software, I just can't find anything about it. The company has probably gone out of business long ago. I would have thought the reporting side of the software would give you the information you need as far as daily analysis. If not, there are many reports the registers can print themselves. Can you be specific about what reporting you need? Please provide an example of what you would like and I'll look into it for you.

I'm sorry, my question was not clear. Yes the software handles the daily reporting, etc. I was hoping get more info about the software so I could figure out how to extract a list containing the price data for each UPC code stored on the computer. That would make it much easier for me to verify prices and SRP info by writing a few shell scripts to compare that database to an electronic invoice. Now it requires taking each item to the scanner to check the price and manually comparing it to the hardcopy invoice.
